哈佛大學法學院副院長安守廉多年來的第一堂課，一定是拿出秀有馬總統照片的哈佛法學院年鑑，藉此強調哈佛法學院很優秀，不要小看同學，因為出了一位中華民國總統。
馬英九在波士頓與學者餐敘時，安守廉拿出1977年哈佛法學院年鑑，發給參加餐敘的每個人，前司法院長賴英照也在上頭。安守廉說，期許哈佛學生進來求學都很優秀，同學裡面就出了一位中華民國總統、一位司法院長，最後成就斐然。
馬也利用此次波士頓過境，與美政界人士互動，包括美政治世家甘迺迪家族的眾議員Joseph Keneedy、眾議員Kathrine Clark早餐會；也致電共和黨總統初選參選人之一的參議員Ted Cruz、參議院軍事委員會主席Tom Cotton、參議員財政委員會主席Orrin Hatch、參議院台灣連線主席Gerald Connolly等。
涉外人士說，馬專機抵達波士頓機場時，有兩位聯邦眾議員親自上飛機接機，這是前所未見，兩位眾議員也陪同馬總統出席哈佛大學的閉門餐敘，在會談當中非常稱讚總統這幾年為台美關係所做的貢獻。也有眾議員與馬總統通電話時特別提到，馬總統在國會中有非常多的好朋友。
據指出，麻州參議院非常以馬總統為榮，所以還做了一個支持台灣的決議文，在僑宴時宣讀。此外，僑界有製作影片，由波士頓幾位重要人物錄一段話，表示對總統來訪的肯定。
馬英九回憶，他第一份工作就是獻給波士頓，當年擔任波士頓僑社中華公所發言人，以及冬夜「用手劈冰」的故事，笑說「搞革命真是不簡單」。
